The bank of the future starts today
On April 16, 2026, we hosted the business breakfast “The Bank of the Future: Platform, Strategy, Speed” in Almaty. The event brought together representatives of the banking sector, investment community and fintech companies to discuss what it takes to build a future-ready bank.
This was our first experience organizing and participating in this type of event. It turned out exactly as we envisioned it: dynamic, meaningful and genuinely professional.
The morning began with expert talks, followed by open discussion. From our experience, this is where real value emerges: after the presentations, when only those with specific challenges, relevant questions and genuine interest remain.
Key takeaways
The discussion started with card processing architecture and the strategic choice behind its operating model. Processing is not just a technical layer. It is a management decision that directly affects the economics of the card business, time to market and product governance. A wrong architectural choice may not be obvious at the beginning, but once it becomes visible, it becomes expensive.
Banks now operate in a reality that is very different from the one their legacy systems were designed for. Transaction volumes are growing exponentially. Open APIs, new payment scenarios, crypto and digital assets are becoming an integral part of the ecosystem. The bank of the future cannot be built on the architecture of the past. At the same time, rebuilding everything at once is rarely a practical strategy. Architecture must follow the business strategy, product model and intended role in the market.
A few years ago, launching a product in six to nine months was considered a strong result. Today, the market operates on a timeline of weeks, sometimes even days. Competition is no longer limited to banks. Fintech players, big tech companies, marketplaces and payment providers are competing for the same customer with similar or related services. This shifts the focus from customer acquisition to customer retention.
Architecture is becoming a business tool. API-first is no longer just a technical approach, but a philosophy for designing modern financial systems. Omnichannel is evolving as well. It is no longer only about multiple customer communication channels. It is about creating a seamless customer journey, regardless of where the interaction starts.
The main conclusion
The banks that win today are not necessarily the ones with the largest number of features. They are the banks whose architecture allows them to adapt faster. This is becoming a decisive factor across technology, business performance and competition.
We are grateful to our partners who made this event possible: System Technologies, Compass Plus and the Almaty Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
We keep moving forward: sharing expertise, strengthening partnerships and contributing to the future of fintech. For us, this was more than an event. It marked a real step forward: focused, meaningful and genuinely honest.
